Low to mid tide is ideal: natural pools between reefs become accessible and shallow visibility improves. Arrive 1–2 hours before peak low tide and prefer calm mornings with light wind (common May through November). Avoid reef-edge snorkeling on a strong incoming tide or rough seas.
Where to park at Búzios?
Informal parking runs along the beach access road, operated by locals (usually R$ 10–20). Holidays and Sundays fill early — arrive before 8 a.m. or stay at DiveBuzios House and drive over. Do not leave valuables visible in the car.
How to rent snorkel gear on the South Coast?
Beach shacks in Pirangi and local partners in Búzios rent gear, but the most practical option is booking a full kit (mask, snorkel, fins) through DiveBuzios House — pickup at check-in, rinse at the house. At what tide are Pirangi pools accessible?
Pirangi's natural pools appear at low tide — the useful window is usually about 2–3 hours centered on peak low tide. Check the Natal/Parnamirim tide chart the day before. South Pirangi has the most famous pools; North Pirangi has less crowded stretches.
Pirangi or Búzios: which to choose?
Choose Pirangi for classic pools, proximity to Natal (25–40 min), and beach-shack infrastructure — but expect more crowds.
